The Tallow Chandlers’ Livery Hall in London has recently been graced with a stunning bespoke woven carpet designed and fitted by Wilton Carpets Commercial.
The axminster carpet was delivered in-budget and in time with the coat of arms at the centre of the carpet master piece. Julie Robertson, design manager for Wilton Carpets, had to work closely with The Tallow Chandlers in order to capture the true heritage of the Livery Company. The Grade 1 listed building’s history and heritage not only complemented the design, but also provided a pleasant ‘face lift’ within the hallway which is heavily panelled with wood and dominated by a grand staircase.
Clerk of the Worshipful Tallowfield Chandlers, Brigadier Roy Wilde CBE enthusiastically commented that “The carpet has had a really positive impact, creating a more inviting atmosphere”.
The carpet covers an area of 173m2 and is made of a heavy duty yarn, designed to withstand high levels of traffic.
Built in 1672, the Tallow Chandlers’ Hall was damaged by the great fire of London and was rebuilt where today it offers support to healthcare and educational charities, providing donations gained by events held in a network of function rooms. It is one of the few Livery Halls to be relatively unchanged since the 17th Century.
The Management of the Halls consulted massively with Julie Robertson, who originally presented two ideas for the inspiration of the coats of arms. Her final design was said to ‘delight’ the Clerk, and immediately made an impression.
When the decision was made to proceed with her design, the whole installation process ran smoothly. Wilton Carpets now come highly recommended as a result of the success.
