Burmatex, one of the UKs leading manufacturers of contract carpet and carpet tiles, have seen their Lateral, Zip and Code bonding range used in the refurbishment of a Derby Sixth Form collegel. Three hundred square metres of Saint Benedicts School went under refurbishment, and having previously used carpet tiles from Burmatex; the architect felt that the Lateral, Zip and Code range would add a modern look and feel due to its ability to compliment modern furniture and wall finishes.
Burmatex products are widely regarded as providing interior designers with more freedom and creativity, in addition to producing cost effective and durable products. Burmatexs in house design team worked alongside Hillside Contracts, the architect and flooring contractors working on the school, and were able to produce a plan view of the scheme before work went ahead. This collaboration allowed them to combine the more traditional fibre bonded carpet tile with modern manufacturing methods.
The newly structured method of bonding is ground-breaking, due to its manufacturing technique and contemporary mix of balance and colours; inspired by elements such as European fashion, interior finishes and even furniture design.
Jane Montague, partner of Hillside Contracts and Interior Designer, has a decade of experience working with the sixth form. She claimed that “We were looking for a flooring range that would complement the modern furniture and wall finishes that we had chosen to lift the look of the new sixth form centre, in order to appeal to the sixth formers that use it. The new ranges from Burmatex answered the brief and fitted perfectly with the scheme we devised”.
